UK Solar's journey began with a pivotal moment in 2007. Driven by a healthy sense of scepticism, our co-founder, Chris, attended a Passivhaus conference with the intention of debunking this emerging, radical concept from Austria and Germany. But what he discovered there changed everything. Instead of finding lofty ideals or impracticality, he faced the true problem: the traditional, wasteful methods of energy consumption that had dominated the building industry for decades. Chris saw how inefficient practices were draining both the environment and people’s wellbeing – and how Passivhaus principles held the key to a better future. The enemy was no longer the new ideas, but the stubborn resistance to progress.

Rather than a sceptic, Chris returned as a believer – inspired by the potential of harnessing renewable energy, reducing waste, and transforming how buildings could empower people to sustainably meet their energy, health, and comfort needs.
